Role Overview:

Manage and oversee the technical operations of the shipping fleet, ensuring vessel performance, compliance, and maintenance meet the highest operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the technical management of assigned vessels, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with international regulations.
  • Develop and implement maintenance schedules, ensuring the timely completion of repairs, inspections, and dry-docking activities.
  • Monitor vessel performance metrics and fuel efficiency, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures.
  • Coordinate with vessel crews, superintendents, and service providers to address technical issues and ensure timely resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory, class, and flag state requirements, including the ISM Code, MARPOL, SOLAS, and other industry standards.
  • Manage budgets for vessel maintenance and technical operations, optimizing cost efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
  • Conduct regular inspections of vessels to assess their condition, verify compliance, and identify necessary improvements.
  • Oversee procurement of technical supplies and spare parts, maintaining adequate inventory levels for seamless operations.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with classification societies, shipyards, and other technical service providers.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to crew members and shore staff, promoting best practices in vessel management.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance technical operations, reduce downtime, and improve operational efficiency.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of ship operations, machinery systems, and technical management practices.
  • Strong understanding of international maritime regulations and classification society standards.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Proficiency in managing budgets, procurement processes, and cost control measures.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with vessel crews, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Familiarity with technical management software and tools for maintenance planning and performance monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience in dry-docking, major repairs, and inspections.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage multiple vessels simultaneously.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
  • Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or equivalent is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in technical management or similar roles within the shipping industry.
  • Experience with various vessel types, such as tankers, bulk carriers, or container ships, is an advantage.
