Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the technical management of the shipping fleet, ensuring operational excellence, compliance, and efficiency across all vessels.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and oversee the technical operations of the company’s fleet, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and compliance with international maritime regulations.
Develop and implement long-term technical strategies to enhance fleet performance, reduce operational costs, and improve energy efficiency.
Manage the preparation and execution of vessel maintenance schedules, including repairs, inspections, and dry-docking activities.
Ensure compliance with all statutory, flag state, and classification society requirements, including ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other relevant regulations.
Monitor and analyze vessel performance data to identify trends, address issues, and implement performance improvement measures.
Establish and manage budgets for technical operations, ensuring cost-effective solutions while maintaining the highest quality and safety standards.
Oversee procurement activities, including technical supplies, spare parts, and services, ensuring timely availability and cost efficiency.
Lead and mentor a team of superintendents, engineers, and technical staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
Build and maintain relationships with classification societies, shipyards, suppliers, and industry stakeholders to ensure seamless operations.
Drive initiatives for fleet modernization, energy efficiency, and sustainability to align with industry best practices and emerging regulations.
Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory updates, providing guidance to the management team on their implications.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
Comprehensive knowledge of shipping operations, vessel management, and maritime regulations.
Proven leadership abilities with a track record of managing technical teams and large-scale operations.
Strong understanding of engineering systems, machinery, and technical aspects of various vessel types.
Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills for resolving complex technical and operational issues.
Expertise in budget management, procurement processes, and cost control in shipping operations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Proficiency in using technical management tools and systems for fleet maintenance and performance monitoring.
Visionary mindset with the ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives for fleet optimization and sustainability.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related field.
Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency or equivalent qualification is highly desirable.
Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in technical management roles within the shipping industry, including significant leadership responsibilities.
Experience managing a diverse fleet, including tankers, bulk carriers, and container ships, is preferred.
